Adventure therapy defined (AT)

Adventure therapy is an active, experiential approach to group (and family) psychotherapy or counselling:
• Utilising an activity base, (cooperative group games, ropes courses, outdoor pursuits or wilderness expeditions)
• Employing real and or perceived (physical and psychological) risk as a clinically significant agent to bring about desired change
• Making meaning (through insights that are expressed verbally, nonverbally, or unconsciously that lead to behavioural change) from both verbal and nonverbal introductions prior to and discussions following the activity experience
• Punctuating isomorphic connection(s) (how the structure of the activity matches the resolution of the problem) that significantly contribute to the transfer of lessons learned into changed behaviour.

AT Youth work

We specialise in running targeted and specialist youth work, working with hard to reach, disadvantage young people through our community outreach program, leadership and team work programs.

We have worked with national organisations such as the YMCA and The Princes Trust as well as local grass roots youth organisations in and around the Norwich and Norfolk area such as Sprowston Youth Engagement project, Youth Advisory boards, The Matthew Project and Norfolk International Youth Project.

AT Adult work

Another specialism is our targeted and specialist work with adults who have complex need such as problematic drug and alcohol usage, those at risk of homelessness or mental ill health.

We have delivered contracts with private drug and alcohol residential treatment centres, national hostel organisation such as Sanctuary housing and Notting Hill Genesis and have worked with local organisations and individuals to develop tailor made adventure therapy experiences.
