The Directors of Ascend Adventure collectively have 18 years’ experience of working with vulnerable adults and young people in a therapeutic capacity. Being personally inspired by the outdoors through a series of experiences in nature including a research trip to Colorado, seven weeks walking in community from Cornwall to Norfolk and a multitude of local and national adventures, gave rise to the concept of Ascend Adventure.
Paul Wheeler – Director
An enthusiastic and driven member of the company, Paul has experience working in the substance misuse field, including residential treatment and is currently involved in setting up a community Recovery Hub. With an extensive sales and marketing background, considerable experience working therapeutically in the outdoors with adults with severe mental health issues plus qualifications in Mountain Leadership and a Degree in Philosophy, Paul brings a unique combination of skills to Ascend Adventure.
With excellent organizational skills, creativity and an eye for detail, Melanie has worked for a successful drug and alcohol charity, with vulnerable young people for thirteen years, presently as a Lead and Family Substance Misuse Worker. Having recently achieved a distinction in a Foundation Degree in Ecology and Conservation, Melanie also holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Counseling and a Level 3 Award in Managing Voluntary and Community Organizations. In combining these awards with Walking Group Leader candidate status registered with Mountain Training England, and a passion for community and the outdoors, as well as a proven track record of voluntary work in the therapeutic outdoor industry, Melanie offers a great deal of experience to the project.
Rosie Bartlett – Director
Appointed in Winter 2017, Rosie originally came to Ascend Adventure as a participant on our popular annual Women Who Walk event, back in 2015 and walked the West Highland Way and the Pembrokeshire Coast Path with us. Volunteering as an able and supportive crew member on many of our projects, Rosie is keen to develop a role for herself in the team, bringing enthusiasm, determination and creative ideas to Ascend Adventure. Rosie regularly participates in challenging events and likes nothing better than hurtling round an assault course!
Ascend Adventure works with a bank of reputable and qualified specialist providers in the outdoor industry. We are particularly pleased to work in partnership with Jay Gough from Waterwish to deliver much of our adventure therapy work.
